    Description

Antique 1787 Sterling Silver Tea Pot / Kettle, London Assay, Charles Aldridge (Silversmith)

This beautiful Sterling Silver Tea Pot was hand crafted by Charles Aldridge, 237 years ago in London, for a family of considerable wealth or even possible of nobility/royalty.
I have not been able to identify the family crest on this tea pot/kettle, it is the same family crest that is on a sugar dish / salt cellar I have also listed on E-bay that was made in the same year by a different silversmith.
The item has a rainbow patina all over the outside and should clean up nicely if you wish to polish this tea pot and bring it to it's previous glory.
The top knob is ivory and the handle may be ebony wood.
The family crest on this piece is of a Castle/Tower/Home with a large letter "J". See the pictures for details.
The item is stamped on the bottom as follows:
    Lion Passant: Sterling Silver
Leopard With Crown: London Assay Office
    King George III: Duty Paid
    Year Date Letter "m": 1787
Silver Makers Mark CA: Charles Aldridge
There is also a Lion Passant Stamp on the inside of the lid. (Zoom in on the picture at the top)
The Tea Pot/Kettle is approximately 4 1/2 inches high and approximately 11 inches in length and 3 3/4 inches wide.
Tea Pot volume is 750ml or 24 fluid ounces, without leaks.
