Antique Hand Carved Soap Stone Calligraphy Wash Pot. This intricately carved antique hand carved soap stone sculpture measures 6” long x 4” tall & 2" deep. This is beautifully carved into flowers, leaves and Bonsai tree in varying shades of brown. the two "pots" used for water for the ink and the second to hold water to wash brushes, and the many holes placed around the sculpture can hold brushes to dry. This is in excellent condition for its age, with fascinating detailed work. Dated around 1910-1920. Soap Stone has been used as a medium for carvings for thousands of years. It was first used in Egypt, China, India, Iran, and parts of the Americas. It is also called Soft Stone or Green Stone. It comes in many colors and variations and is used all over the world.
