    Description

    Welcome to
    Antiques & Moore!
This listing is for a FABULOUS 3-piece English George III Sterling Silver tea set made by Joseph Angell, c. 1817.
Each piece has a fancy 3-letter engraved and intertwined monogram with the only certain letter being a center "B" with the other two letters possibly being "J S". Joseph Angell was from a highly esteemed family of goldsmiths and this set meets all expectations. The set features an elaborate wide embossed top rim and impressive paw feet with the bottom section of each piece having a paneled or ribbed design.
On the tea pot, the upper portion of the spout and finial are also heavily decorated and the handle is unusually wide and substantial. The handles on the creamer and sugar bowl attach at the top with an embossed leaf and the handles are shaped as twisted branches. The teapot's lid has a dove-tailed type hinge that is in perfect working condition and the handle has a natural heat spacer.
Each piece is marked with English hallmarks for London, Sterling, date letter for 1817 and maker's stamp for Joseph Angell. Most of the marks are faint from wear, however, among all the marks there are enough that are clear that the attribution could be determined.
    The set includes:
TEA POT - measures 4 1/2" high (at tip of spout), 6" high (at side of handle), 11" long and 5" wide. Weighs 760 grams.
    CREAMER - measures 3 7/8" high (at handle), 5 3/4" long and 3 1/2" wide. Weighs 235 grams.
    SUGAR - measures 4 1/8" high (at handles), 7 1/2"  long and 4 1/4" wide. Weighs 380 grams.
    Combined weight is 1375 grams.
This fabulous set is in excellent Estate condition with no noted damage although there are a few faint dings around the smooth portion of the upper body from normal wear. This is a great set that you will definitely enjoy using.
