Description
Here is a rare find. This is a 1960's era F.G. Mason Engineering model A2 Technical Surveillance and Countermeasures radio receiver system. This unit was developed and marketed by Mason engineering. The primary client was the US government, with the US state department, CIA and other alphabet agencies using these units. Only 800 of these were ever produced. This is a real lifepiece of James Bond gear straight from Q branch! :) This one is serial number 262. This unit was a marvel of modern engineering in its day. A modular system contained in a briefcase that replaced a truckload of gear. It consists of the receiver, S-1 panorama unit, battery pack, plug in tuners, headphones and antennas. It covers 2Kc to 1.2Ghz with 11 modules. The modules are as follows: LF1-2-9khz, LF2-9-43khz, LF3-43-130khz, LF4-130-475khz, LF5-475-1470khz, LF6-1.47mhz (1470khz) to 4.5mhz, T18-4.5mhz-18mhz, T75-18mhz-75mhz, T340-75mhz-340mhz, T900-340mhz-800mhz and T1100-900mhz-1200mhz. Also included is battery pack BP-3, 2 plug in antennas, an antenna connector that uses the 120vac line, headphones and briefcase. Testing- I powered the unit up using the BP3 battery case that takes 14 AA batteries and two additional batteries in the S-1 unit to provide filament voltage for the S1. I plugged in the T-340 tuning unit (75-340mhz) and tuned it to the appropriate frequency. I was able to get a deflection on the meter, audio in the headphones and a trace on the S-1. The receiver audio and meter deflection increased and the S-1 trace increased in width as I approached the transmitter. The unit appears to be working as designed. This is your chance to own a rare piece of cold war US spy gear. I have only seen one other A2 come on the market in recent years and it was not nearly as complete as this one.I am an extra class amateur operator. I test and describe the items I sell to the best of my ability. If you are not satisfied, you may return the item and I will pay return shipping and issue a full refund including your original shipping cost.
Buyer pays actual shipping, seller accepts credit cards though Paypal. Thanks for looking!
Additional Information regarding my listings:
I sell primarily used electronic items. I make every effort to ship within 3 BUSINESS days of receiving payment. My shipping costs are based on the shipping weight of the item, insurance and the cost of packaging. Shipping costs are calculated automatically by the eBay shipping calculator The shipping cost shown in the auction is an eBay calculation based on the weight of the item and the geographic location of the bidder. Please check the eBay shipping calculator to verify shipping costs before bidding. Inside the US I use Fedex for items over 3lb and USPS priorty mail for items 3lb & under. All international shipments are by USPS Priority mail international. International bidders are responsible for all customs fees. I will not mark items on customs forms as gifts or declare a value lower than the winning bid so please do not ask me to do so. If there is not a "buy it now" price listed on the item, it means I intend to let the auction run to completion so please do not ask me to end the auction early, that is unfair to other bidders. If an item is listed as no international shipping, I will not ship it outside of the US but will ship to a US address for international bidders. I strive to have all my buyers 100% satisfied. If you have any questions or issues after receiving your item, PLEASE contact me prior to leaving feedback so that I may address them. As a seller, my policy is that I provide feedback after the buyer leaves feedback. If you have any questions not answered here, please contact me prior to bidding. I am a one person operation and will answer all inquiries in as timely a manner as I possibly can. Thanks again for looking at my item.
Please note: I have been experiencing a sharp increase in non-paying bidders. Once an auction ends, sellers have to pay auction fees based on the amount of the winning bid, REGARDLESS of whether or not the buyer follows through with payment. When a buyer fails to pay for an item, the only recourse sellers have is to file a non-paying bidder complaint with ebay to have the auction fees paid by the seller refunded. Ebay allows 4 days for a buyer to make payment arrangements before they allow sellers to open a non-paying bidder complaint. If I do not receive payment or otherwise hear from a winning bidder within 4 days, a non-paying bidder complaint will automatically be opened by the EBAY automated seller assistant software.
Shipping Address Information: I use the eBay seller assistant to print shipping labels. It copies the address information listed on the buyers eBay/Paypal account. It is the responsibility of the BUYER to ensure that the address listed on their account is current and correct. I will not accept responsibility for a shipment being sent to the wrong address if the buyer provides an incorrect address on their eBay/Paypal account. PLEASE update your account address before bidding and do not send notes, emails, etc expecting me to correct the address that is provided on your account.
