On offer here is this truly marvelous and elegant example of a Vienna
(Austrian)
silver coffee pot handcrafted in
the classic Art Nouveau manner and embossed and cast with sinuous tendrils, stems and floral motifs
.
This delightful coffee pot has a body of double gourd shape with a hinged lid surmounted a cast,
integral flower stem as a finial. The sinuous, stem-form handle is fitted a pair of 'bone' insulators
and the whole is supported on 4 legs cast as 3 leaves in fan form.
Stamped to the base with the Minerva's head purity mark for Vienna (Austria) and the number '3' denoting silver content
of 800/1000 parts pure silver, and the "Ewer" mark for the Eduard Friedmann Studio.
The Eduard Friedmann silver workshops were active in Vienna, Austria from 1881 to 1919.
Many of the most talented artist's/designers of the period worked within or provided designs to this workshop
including the likes of; Rudolf Karger, Milla Weltmann, Hans Bolek, Philippe Hauser,
Emanuel Josef Margold and Otto Prutscher, to name a few.
Silver weight is 461 grams.
