    Description

Presented is a fabulous five piece Gorham sterling silver tea set. This set is made in the desirable Chantilly pattern, in the 'Grand' design, featuring beautifully hand chased scroll, floral and foliate designs. The set is quite heavily decorated with these classical motifs, on the bodies, lids, and even the handles. Around the edge of the top is a band of floral garlands and bellflower swags. The bodies have vertical leaf-tipped fluting and heavy scrolls, very bold and distinctive. The look of the set is very impressive and ornate, the hand chased decorations are done with great skill and attention to detail. The pieces are well made from thick, heavy gauge silver, with a nice feeling of weight. This set would retail from Replacements.com for 00 at the time of our research, and that's on sale down from 00. We are pleased to offer this beautiful set for a much more pleasant price.
    The set consists of:
Teapot--10 1/4 from spout to handle, 7 inches tall. Capacity of 4 cups (32 fluid ounces/0.9 liters)
Coffee pot-- 10 inches tall. Capacity of 4 1/2 cups (36 fluid ounces/1.06 liters)
    Creamer--6 1/8 inches tall.
Sugar bowl-- 7 1/2 inches from handle to handle, 5 1/2 inches tall.
Waste bowl--5 1/2 inches from end to end, 3 1/4 inches tall.
The set is in great condition. The lids of the pots and sugar bowl seat well. The handles are firmly mounted, with no wiggling or give. The details of the chased designs are very crisp. The interiors of the pieces are clean as can be, and on the pieces that have gold wash interiors (the waste bowl, sugar, and creamer) the gold wash is in great shape. There are no splits, no dents, no leaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
All the pieces have the Gorham maker's mark as well as sterling. The teapot has the number A597, the coffee pot has the number A596, the creamer has the number A599, the sugar bowl has the number A598, and the waste bowl has the number A600. All the piece have a date mark of a sickle, for 1899, EXCEPT the coffee pot which has a knot date mark for 1910. All the pieces except the coffee pot have the retail mark for Bailey, Banks & Biddle.
The total weight for the set is 2619 grams or 92.4 regular ounces.
