Offered is a vintage piece ofAmerican Railroad History

a Frisco Railroad Lantern with a Signal Red Fresnel Lantern Globe.
The lantern frame is a Dressel and is embossed on the shoulder “
FRISCO
,” which is the nickname for
St Louis & (-) San Francisco Railroad
. The frame is in excellent condition; clean metal, stands straight and has no loose joints, extra holes drilled, major dents, bent, broken or missing parts. It has the correct Dressel fount and burner. The fount and burner are in excellent operating condition, would hold fuel and burn if desired. The wick easily moves up and down and the fount contains the original factory wadding.
It comes with a Signal Red Fresnel Lantern Globe which is cast “CORNING” and “MADE IN USA” along the bottom rim.
As with any globe that saw railroad service, there may be some roughness or chipping on the rims which will not show when the globe is in a frame.
The St Louis & San Francisco Railroad existed from 1876 to 1916, when it became St Louis – San Francisco, “FRISCO,” being the nickname, which existed until 1980. It was acquired by Burlington Northern in 1980. Burlington Northern merged with Santa Fe in 1997, forming todays Burlington Northern - Santa Fe.
