Up for this auction is a
HANDCRAFTED, LATHE TURNED SCULPTURE OF A MUSHROOM.  IT IS CRAFTED OF LOCUST WOOD, SIGNED & DATED BY MASTER WOODWORKERS, JERRY & SUE BAKER, 2009.
This beautifully handcrafted effigy of a mushroom is turned & carved from a lovely piece of LOCUST wood.  Imagine the wood image as an actual mushroom, unique in its shape, texture, aroma, & flavor.  While most edible mushrooms can be cultivated, the act of mushroom hunting in the wild is addictive in its own right & is referred to by enthusiasts as "Mushroaming"!
The LOCUST wood itself is almost alive as it adds its own spin to the carving of this mushroom; the master woodworker turns & carves the wood, eliminating the parts of wood until, like in the frosty spring woodland mornings, the mushroom appears!  Most types of wood surprise turners & carvers with characteristic color changes, fractures, craters, & splits that appear as the artist turns the wood on the lathe or uses various woodcarving tools to simulate reality.
With this beautiful handcrafted LOCUST wood sculpture, the hunt is over for an incomparable gift to give your fungi loving friends.  Perfect for a small nook in any room, especially the kitchen.
As a young girl growing up in southern Indiana, spring
Saturday mornings were always reserved for "mushroaming" with my father, who was a diehard outdoorsman.  My father seemed to have an almost sixth sense for finding mushrooms & was a matchless mentor in teaching me how to tell the difference between edibles & toxics.
He had his favorite woodland haunts, & depending on the weather each spring, we would usually come home with a pretty good haul of 'shrooms for my mother's Sunday dinner!

We came across these many sculptures when we were attempting to create a "mushroom forest" for one of our "Alice in Wonderland" vignettes during the Spring/Summer Festival, "Storybook Playhouses" at the Dallas Arboretum in Dallas, Texas.
These one-of-a-kind carved & turned pieces are individual works of art.  Every object is named & signed by the artists.

CONDITION
Many of my items are vintage & fairly aged; accordingly, there may be some issues with individual pieces that are associated with the passage of time.
Each piece is gently used & may exhibit minor glitter loss and/or paint anomalies due to the vintage quality of the item.
I have looked each of them over to detect any major flaws Any serious damage, fading or discoloration that I can perceive will be disclosed; however small flaws (i.e. imperfections in the glaze/paint, a slipped stitch, etc.) may be missed.
ALL OF MY COLLECTIONS HAVE BEEN STORED IN A TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT IN OUR SMOKE-FREE, PET-FRIENDLY HOME.
