Stuart MacDonald a small known silversmith in Baltimore MD from 1879-1921. Not much has been written about this company I have searched the
internet and spent some time with some local Baltimorean's and this actually is very Rare - Although you may find some flatware here and there but this set is something special. O
ver 5 lbs of pure sterling Antique hand crafted silver.
Hand
Chasing
or embossing is a similar technique in which the piece is hammered on the front side, sinking the metal.
Yes it is monogramed on one side and the center of the tray. If you are so inclined a local silversmith maybe able to erase the monogram for you. Or just turn to the other side and put a lovely lace doily in the center of the tray.
The footed tray
does show some minor wear due to normal use and age as does the balance of this set. Measures 14" in diameter and stands 1" high with an rim of 1 1/2" of detailed hand chased floral pattern named Baltimore Floral AKA Baltimore Rose solid sterling silver and a weight of 904 grams.
The coffee pot / tea pot
is wonderful with a full of hand tooled matching Baltimore Floral design and stands 10" tall to the top of the hinged lid. 9" wide from the end of the spout to the end of the handle. The Base is 4" diameter and the lid is 3 1/2" diameter. Once again solid sterling silver and marked on the
bottom with a weight of 818 grams
The Sugar pot
with matching pattern and lid is 6" wide from handle to handle and 6" tall from base to top of the lid. weight is 369 grams and is in excellent condition with the balance of the set.
The Creamer
stand 5" tall and is 5" wide from spout to handle and has a weight of solid sterling of 237 grams.
