Description
One Sterling Silver (.925) Basket style compote dish with a hinged swinging handle designed by John Wanamaker. Stamped with makers mark, Sterling, and the numbers "350". Featuring a pierced triangle shaped edge and a plain interior and exterior. Estimated to have been made in the early to mid 20th century in Philidelphia, PA. John Wanamaker founded one of the first department stores in the United States and created a chain that lasted until 1994 that started in a not so humble abandoned railroad station and grewto influence the retail industry as a whole***
Note that there is a noticeable dent at the base and that although common with raised dishes like this, the dish still stands perfectly straight and is unbent.
