Samuel Kirk Solid Silver Tea / Coffee Pot.
Description
A wonderful piece from renowned silversmith Samuel Kirk.
A very large and heavy (1.3kg) ornate teapot dating to approximately 1865.
With tall spout and angular handle complete with ram's-head thumbrest.
Hinged flat lid with cast finial, standing on a spreading circular foot.
Profusely decorated throughout in Kirk's signature repoussé style.
Elements depicted include various buildings, trees and a butterfly.
Clearly hallmarked for Samuel Kirk & Son within base.
This mark was used from approx. 1861 - 1868.
Also marked with French control mark to plain area between base and body.
A great, large piece and a great example of Kirk's work.
Condition
In antique condition with some wear.
Expected surface wear and minor dings throughout.
There are creases and a 5mm split above the base (see pic. 11).
Maker's marks are clear and legible.
