RARE Superb 7"+ Qing Antique Chinese Celadon ~SLIP Porcelain~ White Flowers Box

Description

This auction is for a gorgeous 19th century antique Qing Chinese porcelain celadon box with white slip flowers and a fitted lid.  There are a variety of beautiful and highly detailed white raised slip flowers & leaves decorating the top and sides of the box.  My favorite decoration is a pumpkin plant with leaves, vines, pumpkin blossoms and a pumpkin.  There is also a beautiful white slip decoration of oak leaves and an acorn.  And many more beautiful decorations.  These floral decorations are exquisite and demonstrate the very fine skills by a Chinese artisan of old China.  Very rare for your collection!
Slip porcelain is made by using finely grained particles sorted from clay by soaking it in water.  The fine grained clay results in a finer surface on the porcelain.  This technique was one of the earliest in the development of Chinese ceramics and was
particularly popular in the Song Dynasty (960 - 1279)

The box is rectangular in shape and has a divided area inside making two compartments.  The outside of the box is celadon with white slip flowers.  The inside of the box is glazed white porcelain.  The bottom of the box is unfinished and not marked.  This form of box was very popular in 19th century China and there are examples recorded in books on Chinese porcelain and on the Internet.  This is the only Chinese slip porcelain box I have seen in 50+ years of active collecting.
I purchased this Chinese celadon slip porcelain box about 40 years ago in California along with several other pieces of antique Chinese slip porcelain.  Some pieces were in celadon and some in blue porcelain, both with white floral slip decorations.  After this, I rarely found antique pieces of Chinese slip porcelain so I have treasured these.
The box is in excellent antique condition with expected normal wear.  The inside rim on one side of the box shows damage for about 2 1/4".  Since the porcelain and glaze is white, the damage has less visual impact.  This damage happened before I bought the box and is not visible from the outside when the lid is on the box.  There could be a very tiny chip on the rim of the bottom part of the box.  Or it might have occured in the making on the box.  Characteristics of old porcelain are visible including pit marks and a few little dark spots.  There could be minor surface scratches on the box.  The bottom shows some darkening from use but is undamaged.  There are no other chips, cracks, repairs or damages.  Considering the age, the slip box is in wonderful condition.
