Description
This Reed & Barton sterling silver tea service is a very early example the full set, kettle on stand, coffee pot, teapot, sugar, creamer and waste. As the pictures show, this was a very rare and dignified pattern, Style 107 before they went to naming their styles. For reference, the coffee pot is 10" tall, so it's a large, heavy and quite impressive tea set.The set features ivory insulators, an extremely cool mono as would be expected of any serious holloware of the age, fluting, beading and a finial. Each piece is properly hallmarked as sterling. Note that the heavy kettle stand is not sterling and includes a burner that was not original to the set.
There are a few minor dings as would be expected of antique sterling, but the set is in excellent condition.
While later Reed & Barton tea set styles are fairly available, it's unlikely that you will find another very early and unique set like this. This is perhaps the most classic and beautiful design R&B made, with amazing presence and dignity. In my years of collecting, I've only seen one other set like this, and it was incomplete, so there probably won't be another opportunity to find this style 107 tea service.
