Description
Presented is a wonderful International sterling silver 4 piece tea set. This set is made in the Orchid pattern, which began production in 1929. This is a fantastic pattern with a very Art Deco feel, typical of the time period to which it dates and reminiscent of Art Deco architecture, like the Chrysler Building. The set is very sleek and handsome, and the pieces are all heavy weight and well made. The tray is made by the Okubo Brothers, a fine Japanese silver company that often made pieces to match popular American patterns. As such, the tray matches the rest of the set perfectly and was likely retailed with it. All the pieces have the same monogram of T, finely engraved in Gothic script. The set consists of:
Teapot-- 8 3/4 inches tall, about 11 1/2 inches from handle to spout.
Creamer-- 5 3/8 inches tall.
Sugar-- 4 inches tall.
Tray--16 1/2 by 12 1/2 inches.
This set is in excellent condition. There are no splits, no leaks, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The teapot, sugar bowl and creamer are stamped on the underside with the International maker's mark as well as sterling, the name of the pattern, and an identifying number of C322. The teapot is also stamped with the capacity, 3 1/4 pints (52 fluid ounces/1.5 liters). The sugar is stamped patent pending, while the teapot and the creamer are stamped patented. The tray is stamped with the name of a Japanese maker, Okubo, as well as sterling.
The total weight for the set is 2590 grams or 91.4 regular ounces.
