This is a vintage MahJong set that belonged to a member of our family. It is the complete set. This offering includes 144 basic tiles, and three extra tiles. We believe the tiles are made of bone, but we have not had this examined by a professional to determine the material. You can see the small black dots and lines that are said to indicate bone. See the closeup photos of the individual tiles, showing the dovetail connection to the bamboo. Please note that the bamboo sections are thick and the dovetails are solid. There are counters (see photos) and two small sets of dice. The pieces are all original, there have not been any substitutions over the years.The racks are not included with this set. For the collector, or the serious player, this is a beautiful example of the intricate work in a MahJong set.
The tiles are beautifully decorated, no cracks or chips. Please see in the photos that the tiles are housed in three drawers. This set was used often as the owner was an avid player. We were told it was bought in Burma or Hong Kong when the family was there. There are no manufacture's marks on the set. The set is in the original box/carrying case. The box needs repair; all the pieces of the box are included, but you can see the damage to the box and the work needed if it is to be used for a carry or storage case.
