The three headed Ganesh is dancing atop his vehicle, the rat. The three heads of Trimukha Ganesh depict the three states of being inherent in any manifestation, which are named the guna. The three primary gunas are generally accepted to be associated with creation (rajas), preservation (sattva), and destruction (tamas). The entire creation and its process of evolution is carried out by these three major gunas. He is holding an elephant goad, a noose, his tusk and laddus. He is dancing beneath a lush canopy. The painting scheme is adopted from the bright colors used in south Indian temples. The temples are known for their large gopurams or towers that rise up into the sky decorated with various gods and goddesses. The gopurams are painted in vibrant colors which mirror the vibrant life of south India.
